Unfortunately Foodbank Victoria has hit capacity, and will no longer be accepting donations. Unfortunately this means that our food drive this week will no longer go ahead this Sunday 19th Jan. The good news is, over 4,500 hampers have been put together for bushfire affected families and much needed food relief has been delivered by the Australian Army to places like Mallacoota and Bairnsdale.
Thank you to all of those who came down last Friday to watch Coach Guy smash 2,500 free throws! It was a fantastic fundraising event by the Altona Laverton Eagles which raised some much needed funds for our firies and our impacted communities! $12,707 is an amazing fundraising effort and a fantastic display of community spirit.
There is still plenty more you can do to support. We have two suggestions for you. Financial donations are the easiest, as the money can be used directly into the communities where it is required.
Bendigo Bank are now official partners of the Victorian Government’s Bushfire Appeal. If you wish to support communities effected by these fires, our friends at Altona, Laverton, Point Cook Community Bank have set up the following page to assist those in need https://www.communityenterprisefoundation.com.au/make-a-donation/bushfire-disaster-appeal/ or you can visit a branch in person to donate. Over $21million has been raised so far by this appeal, every dollar helps!
Once the conditions are stable and communities have had a chance to rebuild, another plea is for you to plan a road trip with your families and friends to these affected areas to help boost their tourism and economy. Small businesses, small communities typically rely on the summer period to make their income for the year, so it is important we support them in any way we can!
We will keep you updated if there is any further way you can help support our bushfire affected communities through initiatives in our local community. Keep an eye out for donation tins!
Most importantly, please keep you and your families safe during this time. Smoke, haze and of course the summer heat will continue for some time, so please look out for each other as basketball starts back up this week.
Stay safe #Gatorfam 💜💛
